Eliška Přikrylová
Angelic encounters

Drinking rum on Tuesday night
Two realms intertwine
My arms stretched to the universe
calling for a sign.
She sent an angel down to Earth
He found me at the club
He brought me down to my knees
So I keep looking up.
In the street I’m chanting prayers
Embracing the dark
Drunken dancing, beg for blessings
God’s light sets a spark.
In all the noise and reflectors
He forced time to stop
Whispering psalms into my ears
Could make my heart drop.
Silver chain upon his neck
As moonlight reflects
Nothing’s ever made much sense yet
Now it all connects.
Placing hands on top of my head
I breathed out and said:
“All hail to the ones forgiven,
tonight I am saved.
And all my sins and all my demons
Shall be washed away
Bring me through the hell and heavens
Through life and decay.”
He looks at me from above
And doesn’t say a word
I kiss his hands and wings and halo
Till all becomes blurred.
Sunrise comes and my angel leaves
Oceans in my eyes
All that has been sent to
Earth must go back to the skies.
Yet something stays beneath the blankets
– a painting of a star:
“Everything you ever needed
You already are.”
Eliška Přikrylová is a 20 year old chemical engineering student from northern Moravia, Czech Republic, who found her passion for literature at a very young age as at the time of her birth, both of her parents were fresh university graduates of Bohemian studies full of motivation to share all their acquired knowledge with an unsuspecting infant. Nowadays you can find her somewhere in Ostrava trying to write herself out of the ever-present anxiety of life amongst thermodynamics equations.
